In 1980 nam de Schotse rallyrijder Jimmy McRae, samen met co-piloot Mike Nicholson, deel aan de legendarische Lombard RAC Rally met de Vauxhall Chevette 2300 HSR. Tijdens de 31e etappe was McRae in strijd voor een top-vijf positie toen hij crashte en moest opgeven. Ondanks deze tegenslag blijft de combinatie van McRae en de Vauxhall Chevette 2300 HSR een legende in de Britse rallygeschiedenis.
